Quarter round is used to cover the expansion gap between the floor and the wall, and it plays an important role in every proper LVP installation. Because luxury vinyl flooring naturally expands and contracts with changes in temperature and humidity, a gap must be maintained around the entire perimeter of the room. The quarter round covers that gap without restricting the floor's movement — keeping the installation structurally sound and visually seamless.

It's also a practical solution when removing existing trim isn't an option. If existing baseboard molding is difficult to remove, quarter round molding may be required to cover the expansion space between flooring and baseboard. A critical installation note: install quarter round molding using finishing nails, nailing the molding into the baseboard rather than the flooring, to allow for natural expansion.
